Custom Furniture

Furniture

Like many woodworkers, I started with small projects, which kept growing until I eventually wanted to build furniture for my house. Some of it is built, and some of it is back-burnered while other projects make their way out of the shop. My preferred styles are Arts and Crafts, Shaker, and Contemporary. I like the clean, simple lines of Scandinavian and contemporary Asian furniture.

Looking for something in particular? Saw something you liked, but not in that type of wood or a different size (or even a higher-end version of something you saw in a cheap furniture store)? I have also taken an idea and incorporated it into several pieces for the same room. I have a good eye for line and color, and can design something that will compliment your room. I don't do extensive carving, large turnings, or built-in cabinets.

If you see something you like, or have a project in mind, drop me a note!

Levine/Hardy Tables
Picture
Cherry wall cabinet from a plan by Mike Pekovich. 24"x13"x6". Handcut dovetails and through tenons.
Picture
The back is milk painted ship lapped ash. The shelves are cherry.
Picture
'200 Lex' Side Table. Cherry, completed March of 2020.
Picture
The base was inspired by a visit to the New York City Design Center, which is at 200 Lexington in NYC. It is also inspired by a side table by Thos. Moser. The Thos. Moser NYC Showroom is in the NYC Design Center now, which is why I was there.
Picture
The dimensions are 30.5" x 13" x 24.5", and finished with a poly, oil and wax finish.
Picture
There is also a lot of deep figure in the top, which is hard to catch in a photo.
Picture
Part of a custom order set. 20" end table. White oak top with stained ash base.
Picture
Coffee table for the same set. 36" square top, 18" high.
Picture
Paired floor lamps with the same ideas as the end and coffee tables. The pattern in the center rail is the same as the ends of the bases of the tables. A little over 6' tall with the shades.
Picture
Red oak with natural finish.
Picture
Dovetails at all four corners
Picture
Small wall cabinet in mahogany with a small white oak door and back panel. 18" x 15" x 4" with dovetail corners.
Picture
Black Walnut and Hickory End Table. The bridle jointed legs are pinned with shop made black walnut dowels.
Picture
Walnut and Pecan Wall Cabinet. It has a french cleat on the back to hang on the wall.
Picture
This Walnut and Maple End Table was commissioned after the original (seen below) was purchased at First Saturday! Thanks Tim!
Picture
30" x 16.25" (the maple top is 12.25") x 24" high.
Picture
Side table in walnut and pecan. The top is 30" x 12.25", and it is 24" high. SOLD at the February 2021 First Saturday Arts Market!
Picture
The legs are hand faceted. You also get a better idea of the beautiful walnut grain in this shot.
Picture
A pedestal stand in quarter sawn white oak. I emphasized a little sapwood in both the top and shelf. It has an oil varnish finish. SOLD! This table went to its new home at the June2020 FSAM!
Picture
The top is 10.5" x 10.5" and it is about 27" high. Putting the sapwood edges together emphasizes the ray fleck as it passes through.
Picture
A beautiful golden white oak color throughout the stand.
Picture
Cherry coffee table. Just finished (5/29/2016), so now it will do its cherry thing as it turns darker and evens out with the light.
Picture
The legs are curved all four sides, and all four rails have a slight belly in them as well. Only about 1/8" over the length, so not too obvious.
Picture
The table is is 18" high, with the top 24.5" x 40".
Picture
Two shots of the corners. The top and tops of the legs are chamfered with a hand plane.
Picture
Picture
This table is 30" x 14" x 35" high. Yes, this black walnut top is that beautiful!
Picture
Beautiful grained walnut case, the cabinet is 24" high x 10" wide x 7" deep.
Picture
The dovetailed drawers are about 6" deep and have pecan fronts with amazing color and grain. The pulls are from the same board.
Picture
The long stretchers end in through tenons wedged with maple (which you really can't see in the picture, but they are there...).
Picture
Total width with the legs is 14 5/8"
Picture
The secondary end stretcher is pecan, and the long stretchers are through tenons wedged with pecan.
Picture
Quilt rack in QS white oak. Special commission for an anniversary. Dyed and oil stained for a mission finish.
Picture
The rack is about 36" wide and 30" tall with three removable bars. The relief carved squares represent the letters in their first names.
Picture
The rack is French cleat mounted. There is a slight curve to the front of the shelf. The configuration of the quilt bars was from their request.
Picture
A cherry and ash blanket chest for the house from a Fine Woodworking plan by Peter Turner. About 4' long, 16" wide, and 18" high.
Picture
All four sides angle in by four degrees.
Picture
The sliding tray is ash with dovetailed corners (hand cut!).
Picture
A small ash hallway/sofa size table - or actually a small desk. This is before attaching the metronome housings in the picture below. Part of a commission for the Seven Lakes Orchestra. The table is 30"x12"x30" high.
Picture
All five of the ash tables with their metronome houses installed! The box is screwed to the tabletop, and the face frame locks the metronome in place.
Picture
Stained red oak. The 'strainer' rails are unstained.
Picture
Just great - she gets into everything...
